Hi everyone, I hope you are all having a great week as we finally move into February!
On Saturday morning I woke up to an email from a patient thanking us for giving him the hope to live again. Some of you that don’t suffer from depression because of your mouth may not be able to relate to this, but we certainly could. The reason? Because for us it is not unusual at all.
Almost everyday we see a patient who is severely depressed because of their dental health. They have usually been suffering in silence for a very long time and often worry there is no help available to fix their mouth. This in turn leads to them hating their appearance, losing their confidence and constantly feeling buried at the bottom of the tunnel because they can’t see a way out of their situation and have no one to turn to. Not to mention that they can’t eat properly and often get bullied in the workplace too.
For people suffering with dental problems, the treatment can be a very emotional process as it is hard for them to look past what they see in the mirror. They have usually been carrying this baggage around with them every day for a very long time and it holds them back in life. When a patient first comes to visit us the end goal can seem a million miles away. Their first visit is usually a very emotional one as they can finally open up about how they have been feeling and they realise that they are certainly not alone and that we can help them. When depression takes over, we understand you can feel completely stuck and that the hardest part is making that first step of reaching out for professional support. We can assure you this is not a forever feeling. It will take time, but things do get better and our team will be here to support you throughout.
It is very touching for the whole team here at Superior Smiles, not to only create this life change but to emotionally support a patient through this transition. Many of our patients have expressed how we have changed their whole outlook on life after allowing them to regain their confidence through their smile. We have also helped changed the perception of being at the dentist for many of our patients where they now look forward to coming to see us.
We don’t just see the change in the mouths of our patients, but we also see the change in them as a person, their confidence grows, they have a radiating smile and happy persona. For us it is one of the most rewarding things about the work we do and that is why we often say we offer life changing dentistry.
Are you ready to make the change?
